Jazz Guitar Essentials Day

Run by Denny Ilett, this new class is designed for any rock, blues, classical or folk guitarists wishing to dip their toes into jazz harmony, rhythm and melody. If you have always wanted to have a go at jazz guitar or are a jazz guitar beginner and wish to improve your playing, this one is for you!

By gaining a grounding in these jazz essentials, sitting in on jam sessions or gigs will become easier. Along the way, you will get plenty of pro-level tips to improve fretboard knowledge, picking techniques, phrasing and general musicality.

Topics covered will include:
 
   

• Unlocking and demystifying jazz chord progressions

• Learning to recognise the most common cadences in jazz

• Exploring the jazz possibilities on a 12-bar blues

• Expanding chord vocabulary

• Learning how and when to use jazz-flavoured scales and modes

When: Sunday 26th January 2025, 10am to 4pm.

 

Where: Rotherfield Greys Village Hall, Greys Green, Henley on Thames, RG9 4QG

Cost: £100 to include tea and coffee.

 

What to bring:

  • Your instrument and music stand

  • Amps and leads if required

  • Pen and paper for making notes

  • Your own packed lunch
