Jazz Guitar Essentials Day

Run by Denny Ilett, this class is designed for intermediate to advanced guitarists wishing to unlock the mysteries of standards, chord vocabulary and essential scales for playing authentic jazz. 

​

By gaining a grounding in these jazz essentials, sitting in on jam sessions or gigs will become easier. Along the way, you will get plenty of pro-level tips to improve fretboard knowledge, picking techniques, phrasing and general musicality.

Content

Topics covered will include:
 
   

• Recognising and applying common cadences such as II-V-I, I-VI-II-V and Blues.

• Increasing your fretboard knowledge

• Simple but essential chord-melody ideas

• Phrasing with a swing feel

• Scale choice and application

• Minor/major II-V-I

• Working through a typical jazz standard chord sequence.

When: Sunday 18th May 2025, 10am to 4pm.

 

Where: Rotherfield Greys Village Hall, Greys Green, Henley on Thames, RG9 4QG

Cost: £100 to include tea and coffee.

 

What to bring:

  • Your instrument and music stand

  • Amps and leads if required

  • Pen and paper for making notes

  • Your own packed lunch
